i'm doing so well, have you heard? you see, you see, i'm such a good girl. cute as a button, you heard? you see, you see, so good, this girl, in pain, i scream you see?
The text is from a poem by Black Lesbian poet Pat Parker (pictured) . My copy is from Naming The Waves Contemporary Lesbian Poetry - ed Christian McEwan 1988.
I don’t usually post this sort of thing at all, but I thought maybe I could reach out for help on here.
My partner, Le, has a rare genetic disorder called dentinogenesis imperfecta, and it essentially means that their teeth are extremely brittle and prone to infection. Throughout their whole life, their teeth have fallen out one by one, and now that their front teeth have fallen out and their last molar is starting to get infected, it’s gotten really hard for them to eat solid foods.
In Canada, while we’re blessed to have healthcare and hospitals that aren’t privatized, dental care is sort of like the area that has fallen through the cracks. Dental care here is still expensive, and even though they’ve applied for government funding for their dental implants over and over again, they’ve been rejected every time. After they got rejected from the Université de Montreal’s dental program for being “too special of a case” to take in, it looks like they’re going to have to pay out of pocket for the expenses.
It would mean the world to me if you could either donate to their gofundme, or reblog this to spread the word. Even if it’s a tiny amount, anything truly helps!
so uh. ive been seeing a lot of kids out and about in a) no masks or b) masks that dont fit. this is not the wave
granted, i cant really blame them bc its very rare to find medical masks that fit children and sometimes (esp. if ur a single parent) you cant just leave your kids at home
luckily last night, my friend told me that i should make more child sized masks so i have. ended up giving one away to a 5 yr old today who was running around without a mask. his dad was really happy about it
if anyone has kids who will need some reusable masks, i have about 8 left, they all fit fairly small children (up to 5 yrs old at least), ill be making more for children soon
if you dont have kids but have the ability to donate, please do so, i am running out of materials and money to keep this up
